The theatre was opened in 1918 as the Allen Theatre on the south side of Jasper Avenue between 100 and 101 streets. In 1929 it was renamed to Capitol Theatre and had a large remodel done in 1938 with a capacity of 1300 seats. The original theatre was closed in 1971 and demolished in 1972.

The new Capitol Theatre is a modern state of the art theatre. Seating for 247 viewers, the theatre boasts a 4D experience. The sound system has thousands of watts of power delivering a vibrating atmosphere. There are 'snow' machines located above the audience.
