The building is a replica of the original hotel built in 1882 and was the first building in Edmonton built of brick.
The original hotel is still being used at 96 Street and Jasper Avenue and is named the Hub Hotel. It is probably the oldest surviving building in Edmonton still used for commercial purposes.
