The original miniature golf courses were designed to help golfer's with their putting skills. In 1929 Tennessee housekeepers added obstacles to make the game appealing to people of all ages. It was patented under the name 'Tom Thumb' .
Edmonton's first miniature golf course was located at 85 Avenue and 109 Street. In 1930 there were 5 miniature golf courses in the city.
